Frequently Asked Questions about Baptism

There are often questions that people ask about the ordinance of baptism. We have compiled some of the most frequently asked questions about baptism, and have provided answers for you.

What is baptism?
Baptism is identification with Jesus Christ. It is an outward symbol of in inward commitment we've made in our hearts to Christ and His body - the church.

Why should I do it?
We submit to baptism because of our love and obedience to Jesus Christ. Baptism shows that we are united to Christ and His church, and that we are not ashamed to identify with Jesus Christ.

I was baptized as a child.
When children are baptized at an early age, it is often very significant to the parents; however, as adults, it can be easy to forget the significance; therefore it can be helpful to make this decision as adults.

Why do I need to do it now?
In the Bible, whenever someone accepted Christ, usually, they were baptized at that moment, when they made the decision. There is never any reason to delay.

I was baptized at my other church. Isn't one baptism enough?
Not all churches are the same. There are some churches that do not believe that faith in Christ alone, saves us. Additionally, there are many life situations that we go through that can cause us to feel drained or distant in our relationship with God. There is nothing wrong with a believer making the decision to start fresh, all over again by re-dedicating his or her life, through re-baptism.

I was christened. Why is baptism different?
It is good to offer our young children to God in prayer; however, as an adult, it is important to come to faith in Christ, and to publicly proclaim our faith through the act of baptism.
